Marché de la poissonnerie en Hongrie

Hungary's fresh fish market is worth an annual HUF 17bn-19bn, of which some 40 pct is generated around the winter holidays, when Hungarians traditionally eat fish, business daily I reported on December 8, 2008.

Fresh fish sales are expected to reach 3,000-4,000 tonnes in Q4, Sandor Orosz, chairman of the Hungarian Alliance of Fish Farmers, told the paper. Carp accounts for about 80 pct of fish sales, though catfish sales are increasing.
EU subsidies account for about 10 pct of the sector's annual revenue.
Fish sold on the black market, though contracting, is still equivalent to 20-40 pct of the legal market.
(HUF 100 = EUR 0.3817)
